NEW PROFESSIONAL COURSE AT NBU!
COURSE DESCRIPTION AND AIMS
This comprehensive course provides an in-depth exploration of human salivary glands in normal and abnormal function, covering both major and minor salivary glands. Detailed study of pathologies will include inflammatory, infectious, neoplastic, and systemic conditions affecting these structures.
The course aims to provide useful and reliable algorithms for the management of various salivary gland diseases, integrating the clinical presentation, diagnostic approaches, imaging methods, and the latest treatment strategies. It is complemented by a demonstration component, where techniques for clinical assessment and the author’s method for salivary gland lavage will be presented on patients.

COURSE CONTENTS AND SCHEDULE:
Day 1 (17.10.2025) – Friday
- Salivary glands normal anatomy and physiology - 2 hours
- Signs and symptoms of salivary gland dysfunction, Imaging techniques – 2 hours
Lunch break
- Developmental abnormalities, Sialadenitis and Sialadenosis – 2 hours
- Immune conditions, Sjögren Syndrome and related diseases – 2 hours
Day 2 (18.10.2025) – Saturday
- Hypersalivation, Medication Induced Hyposalivation – 1 hour
- Head and neck irradiation damage to the salivary gland system – 1 hour
- Therapies for dry mouth (Xerostomia) – 2 hours
Lunch break
- Case-based learning session – 1 hour
- Clinical demonstration on patients – 2 hours:
- Techniques for clinical assessment of salivary glands and salivation
- Salivary gland lavage
LEARNING OUTCOMES
The course has the following aims and potential benefits for trainees:
- To demonstrate comprehensive understanding of salivary gland anatomy, embryology, and normal physiological functions
- To provide up-to-date scientific data on salivary gland diseases
- To present the most advanced methods and approaches for examining patients with salivary gland pathology
- To identify and classify various salivary gland diseases including inflammatory conditions, infections, autoimmune disorders, and neoplasms
- To analyse clinical presentations and symptoms associated with different salivary gland pathologies
- To evaluate and interpret diagnostic imaging studies including imaging techniques
- To develop differential diagnoses for patients presenting with salivary gland disorders
- To formulate appropriate treatment modalities
- To recognize the relationship between systemic diseases and salivary gland dysfunction
- To apply evidence-based medicine principles in the management of salivary gland diseases
- To demonstrate effective communication skills when discussing diagnosis and treatment options with patients and families
PRELIMINARY REQUIREMENTS
The participants in the course must be doctors of dental medicine.
